One Act Of Kindness Changed Their World

We met our first Maasai in January 2020 on a trip to Kenya. We had heard of the walking for water crisis that affects over 770 million people across the globe. It’s hard to believe that even in the 21st Century this scourge and crime against humanity exists. It wasn’t until we befriended some of the Maasai women walking 18 miles each day just to collect water, and their children who couldn’t walk to school as it was too far and too dangerous, that this crisis became all too real. We were gifted a precious and beautiful ceremonial artifact by one the Maasai leaders in the community. This act of kindness to Americans that have everything, from people that have little to give, touched our hearts. We came back to California determined to find a way to help this community.

Little did we realize that the whole world would come to a screeching hault in March 2020 with the Covid-19 pandemic. Forced to stay in our homes, we started making face masks, sewing them at the kitchen table and then selling them to our friends and community. We made over 1,200 masks and had the funds to build the first water well project and school for our Maasai community. We were taken by surprise as none of the big water charities we contacted built any of their own projects as they outsourced them, nor were any interested in helping us build anything in Amboseli, Kenya as it’s too complicated and expensive for any of the organizations we contacted.

Determined to help we decided to form our own charity. Love Tribe Project became a Federally Accredited Charity in June 2020 and we completed the first water project and school for our Maasai friends in their village of Sumuneria all during a Global lockdown and world pandemic! We have since gone onto fund several complex and expensive water projects in communities that were dismissed by larger water charities and we have built many new schools in those villages providing the gift of education and generational change. See Our Projects page for more details.By providing clean water and education, we have primarily empowered women and girls in these communities to have a better and brighter future. Together we are creating generational change not only to the Maasai but one day to the destiny of a Nation.
